Inter smiles, Hakan Calhanoglu stays in nerazzurro

Hakan Calhanoglu will continue to wear the Inter shirt, at least for now. After days of rumors and negotiations, the confirmation has come: there are no conditions for the Turkish midfielder’s move to Galatasaray. The Istanbul club attempted the coup with a blitz in Milan, represented directly by vice-president Abdullah Kavukçu, but the meeting with the Nerazzurri management produced no agreement.
Inter’s position was clear from the beginning: Calhanoglu would not be sold for less than 30 million euros. A price Galatasaray could not even come close to, having put a proposal on the table well below 10 million. Too little to convince the Viale della Liberazione club, which considers the Turkish director a staple of Cristian Chivu’s squad.
In addition, Inter had set an internal deadline for the transfer: if no concrete offer arrived before the start of the summer training camp, Calhanoglu would automatically be considered incedible. And so it was. With the negative outcome of today’s meeting, any glimmer of a transfer to Galatasaray closes, at least momentarily.
In spite of this, the situation remains to be monitored. Until the summer soccer market closes on September 1, new scenarios may pop up. In particular, eyes are on the Saudi Pro League, which could tempt Calhanoglu with a financially attractive offer. However, it remains to be seen whether the player himself would be willing to leave Milan and Europe at this time in his career.
