FITP president Angelo Binaghi spoke to the microphones of SuperTennis after Jannik Sinner’s extraordinary success at Wimbledon: “It is one of the greatest victories of Italian tennis, also because of the’importance of the tournament and the fact that an Italian had never won it in singles”.

“However, it is also important to remember that this is not an isolated case – added the Federtennis number one -We have a battleship, we have Paolini who won in Rome, we have Musetti who is number 7 and we hope that she will be able with Jannik to qualify for the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin. To have two Italians on the singles court would be unimaginable. In addition, we have Cobolli entering the top 20, we have Matteo Berrettini who we need to catch up with, and we have Sonego who continues to do great in the Slams. We have 8-10 players that the world envies us, we should be proud of them”.

Then he returned to the South Tyrolean champion: “He is an amazing guy, one of the smartest guys I have ever met. He’s a great man. If I, who have gone through a few decades of Italian tennis, could have drawn the Italian champion of the future, I would have drawn him as he is, both on the court, for the solidity, the continuity, the steadiness, the concentration that he has in the important points, and off the court. If the new Italian generation looks to Jannik Sinner, the future can only be rosy”.

“I think he has all the time and the chance to try to make the Grand Slam in the next few years – he said – Having the strongest player in the world has changed the history of our tennis, I think also of the sport, in our country. So arm yourself with a racket and airline tickets and keep traveling the world because the emotions you have seen today you will see in the next ten years” concluded Binaghi.
