Jannik Sinner: Minister Abodi explains why he was not at Wimbledon final

The absence of Italian institutions in London on the occasion of the Wimbledon final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, which saw an Azzurro being crowned king of the Championships for the first time, turned the noses of many. Sports Minister Andrea Abodi to Gr Parlamento commented on the controversy as follows.
“How did I experience Sinner’s victory at Wimbledon? With great emotion, at a distance, because contrary to many other times, this time I did not go. It also happens to a minister sometimes to stop, to need to stop, to spend a day with family”.
“Sorry for the absence of Italian institutions– confessed Abodi -I think the most important thing is to be able to rejoice anyway for a feat that brings everyone together. It can happen that institutions are missing and it happened in this circumstance: we regret it because it would have been much nicer to be there, but sometimes we too have life circumstances that prevent us from doing so”.
On a possible meeting of Sinner with Mattarella and Meloni: “With every victory there’s been a celebration, so I am convinced that it will not be missed. The issue is simply to find a meeting point between the institutions’ agenda and especially Jannik’s sports agenda, which has priority for us. When he is ready, when he can, when he wants to, surely we will all be here ready to welcome him”.
