“I dedicate this victory of mine to Samuele Privitera, today since the start I have been thinking about him. Dedicating this success of mine in the Tour de France to him is the least I can do today”.

Tadej Pogacar put it this way after his victory at an altitude of 1,520 meters in the 12th stage of the Tour de France, at the end of which the phenomenal Slovenian returned to wear the yellow jersey symbolizing the supremacy of the Grande Boucle.

The 19-year-old Ligurian cyclist died on Wednesday evening from the consequences of a fall during the Tour of Valle d’Aosta. All prizes from the under-23 race will be donated to Samuel’s family. In fact, the organizing committee accepted a number of requests made by sports directors after the boy’s death.
