Hopman Cup, Lucia Bronzetti puts Italy ahead against France

In Bari, the women’s singles match between Italy and France worth the Hopman Cup final was won by Lucia Bronzetti. The Romagna-born, world number 64 with great effort at the super tie-break with a score of 6-4 6-7 10-8 Chloé Paquet, number 156, in two hours and a quarter of play.

In the first set Paquet goes immediately up 2-0 but Bronzetti turns the tide by winning four games in a row and manages to keep the break lead until she successfully closes the partial set. Lucia in the second set makes the break at 2-2, saves a counterbreak ball at 4-3, then at 5-3 has two match points but misses them and soon after gets caught up at 5-5.

We go to the tie-break, in which Bronzetti goes to 5-2 but here suffers five consecutive points. The super tie-break decides everything: it is always Bronzetti who commands the score, first at 5-3 and then at 8-6, but he always gets caught up until, at 8-8, he cashes in the two points that are worth the victory. In the men’s singles, Flavio Cobolli and veteran Richard Gasquet will face off.
