Monday&#8217s eve is a day loaded with expectations for the women&#8217s national team, which on Tuesday night in Geneva will contend with England for a place in the finals of the 2025 European Championships. Italy&#8217s head coach, Andrea Soncin, is charged up and, while acknowledging the strength of his opponents, is not setting any limits on the Italian girls.

“We hugely respect England, but we are also aware of our capabilities – Soncin said in the press conference -We have conviction and awareness, we want to continue living this dream. In these days we have been trying to recover our strength: I have no particular recipes, but I know that we can play for victory”.

Talking about England, Soncin then explained: “They are skilled in ball possession but they also know how to start vertically, they attack spaces well and have several players who are good in the offensive phase. Certainly their motivation is also high, being the defending champions they will not want to stop at the semifinal. They are strong, but they are not unbeatable”.

Italy made it to the semifinals after a 2-1 victory over Norway last Wednesday, a match decided by Cristiana Girelli′ s second goal scored in the 90′ that avoided extra time. England, on the other hand, defeated Sweden not without fretting: after going down 2-0, the English women came back in the final game, taking it to extra time and then to penalties. In the series of shots from the penalty spot came only three goals out of seven attempts, but Sweden scored one less and had to say goodbye to the competition.
