World Swimming Championships, bronze and Italian record for Thomas Ceccon in the 50 butterfly

Another medal comes from the pool at the World Aquatics Championships Arena in Singapore, home of the World Swimming Championships 2025: Thomas Ceccon in fact won bronze in the 50 butterfly, also finishing with a new Italian record in the discipline. 22″67 was the time of the Venetian swimmer, who finished behind Maxime Grousset and Noah Ponti.
The Frenchman finished his race in 22″48, three hundredths ahead of the Swiss. For Ceccon, gold in the same discipline in Fukuoka in 2023, it is his second medal at this event, following the silver he won with the 4×100 freestyle relay on Sunday. In total, Ceccon has won 3 golds, as many silvers and 2 bronze medals at the World Championships in the longtub.
As for the other finalists, finishing at the foot of the podium is Portugal″77-ranked Diogo Matos Ribeiro (22″77), behind him from fifth to eighth place are Britain’s Benjamin Proud (22″79), Dutchman Nyls Korstanje (22″84), German Luca Armbruster (same time as Korstanje, thus sixth ex-aequo) and Brazilian Guilherme Santos (22″92).
The current one is the 22nd edition of the World Swimming Championships: the first one dates back to 1973 and was held in Belgrade, while the one before this year’s was staged in 2024 in Doha, Qatar. Italy has twice hosted the rainbow event, both times in Rome, in 1994 and 2009.
