Montreal bitter for Jasmine Paolini: the'azzurra s'jams on the most beautiful

The experience of Jasmine Paolini in the WTA 1000 in Montreal ends after only one match: the Versiliese, already in the second round thanks to the number 7 seed, in fact surrendered to the Japanese Aoi Ito despite seeming to be about to close the match in the second set, when the same Italian, who started very strong, found herself ahead 6-2, 4-1.
.
From then on, however, the world number 110 raised the level of her game, winning three games in a row including one on the Italian tennis player’s serve. Paolini then seemed to be able to regain the reins of the game, tending to earn a match point at 5-4, but Ito responded blow for blow by going on to take the second set with the result of 7-5.
Much less ‘tearful’ the third and final fraction of the match, with the two rivals who, despite breaks and counterbreaks, never built up more than a one-game lead, going on to play it all out in the tie-break: the final mini-game was also characterized by great balance, but Ito scored three consecutive points on 4-5, going on to take the game, match and match.
For Jasmine Paolini, it is not the best time from the singles tournament point of view: after winning in Rome, in fact, the Italian player did not go beyond the eighth round at Roland Garros, the second round in Berlin, the semifinals in Bad Homburg and the second round at Wimbledon, where she was a finalist the year before. In the rankings, she currently holds out in Top 10 but in the Race to the WTA Finals she is eighth, just outside the Top 7 that guarantees automatic qualification.
