As is well known, the Toronto Masters 1000 is missing the best tennis players in the world. In particular Jannik Sinner who forfeited (as did his great rival Carlos Alcaraz) to concentrate on the upcoming events, namely Cincinnati and the US Open.

To defend the blue colors many Italians. The one who got off to the best start was Matteo Gigante. The class of 2002 played a really fabulous match against Borna Coric. Having lost the first set (6-4), the Roman tennis player shifted gears and won the next two partials: 6-2, 7-6, gaining the pass for the second round of the tournament.

The Italian player’s performance was a great success.

After shining at Roland Garros (where he beat Stefano Tsitsipas), Matteo Gigante confirms that he is growing steadily. At 23 years old, his tennis continues to improve and, thanks to wins like the one against the experienced Borna Coric, so does his self-confidence (the one against the Croatian is the fourth career win in a Masters 1000 for Matteo Gigante).

In the next round he will face the home idol Gabriel Diallo, the number 27 seed in the men&#8217s draw. It should be mentioned that Matteo Gigante is present at the Toronto Masters 1000 thanks to a wild card. Judging by the way he started the tournament, a wild card really put to good use. And more satisfaction could be on the way as well.
