L’former world number one Jimmy Connors in his Advantage Connors podcast talked about Novak Djokovic&#8217s chances of winning another Slam in the duopoly era of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. The Serbian tennis player, a 24-time winner of Slam tournaments, has lost the last five confrontations with the Azure, the last one very sharply at Wimbledon: the gap is widening.

“It&#8217s tough for him. I don&#8217t give him a pass, but the problem is that if he can&#8217t be in the top four in the rankings, he risks facing Sinner or Alcaraz right away in the quarters, and if that doesn&#8217t happen he&#8217ll still play three tough matches in a row that would probably put him up against Sinner and Alcaraz one after the other”.

The problem is that if he doesn&#8217t get to the top four, he risks facing Sinner or Alcaraz right away in the quarters.

At Wimbledon the defeat against Sinner was uncontested: “I had the feeling that he gave everything he had to win Wimbledon and that result in the semifinals he did not like. Losing three sets in a row like that… He is not used to things like that, it is not him, it is not his game”.

According to Connors, Djokovic was right to skip Toronto: “He is now the oldest player on the circuit, he has to manage his body well. But if he wants to get to the top at the US Open, he must be able to play a few matches before the tournament”.
