Jannik Sinner picks up where she left off: sprint start in Cincinnati

Twenty-seven days without a match seems like a very long time, especially with a busy schedule like that of the ATP Tour, but Jannik Sinner was able, in Cincinnati, to pick up exactly where he left off in Wimbledon, after his triumph with Carlos Alcaraz: in the second round of the Masters 1000 in Ohio, in fact, the South Tyrolean annihilated Daniel Elahi Galan with a clear 6-1, 6-1.
The match between the current world No. 1 and the Colombian, who occupies position No. 144 in the ranking but in the previous round had beaten a Top 100 opponent, Vit Kopriva, lasted just 60 minutes: little more than a practice session, with Sinner who already after a quarter d’hour of the match was able to lead 5-0, before losing the first of two games overall.
For Jannik Sinner, then, the first exam passed on concrete, a surface that has given him numerous satisfactions from winning the Davis Cup with the national team captained by Filippo Volandri in 2023 and 2024 to succeeding twice at the Australian Open, in 2024 and 2025, as well as at the US Open 2024 and the ATP Finals at the conclusion of last season.
The one played today was the third head-to-head clash between Sinner and Galan, with the South Tyrolean confirming his superiority two years after the last previous one, in the round of 16 at Wimbledon in which Sinner prevailed 7-6(4), 6-4, 6-3, and four years after the first-ever head-to-head match, in the Davis Cup, when the current world number 1 won 7-5, 6-0.
