Jasmine Paolini&#8217s adventure at the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati is off to a good start. The Tuscan, number nine in the world and seven in the seeding, overcame in two sets (7-6 7-6) Greek Maria Sakkari, number 65 in the WTA ranking, after almost two and a quarter hours of battle.

Jasmine got off to a strong start: she got the break in the second game and repeated it in the sixth game, going up 5-1. Here, however, she suffers the comeback of her opponent, who nullifies four set points before levelling at 5-5. At the tie-break, however, she dominated the’Azzurra, imposing herself 7-2.

The second set is much more balanced: the’only one to concede break points – three – is Sakkari but the Greek saves on all occasions. It comes to the tie-break again: Paolini goes ahead 6-0, Sakkari climbs up to 5-6 but the sixth match point is the good one for the Tuscan.

Thanks to this victory, Paolini flies to the third round of the ‘Cincinnati Open‘ where she will face the U.S. Ashlyn Krueger, number 26 in the seeding and 35 in the world, who overcame Latvian Anastasija Sevastova (6-4 0-6 6-3) in three sets.
