On the Italian night between Tuesday and Wednesday, tricolor tennis was able to celebrate the brilliant comeback of Lucia Bronzetti, who was able to react to a disappointing first set with two flawless fractions. Falling under the Romagnola’s blows was Jelena Ostapenko, number 30 on the professional circuit: 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 the final score.

The first game fraction had returned a precise and fast Ostapenko, able to go immediately on 3-0 without having to look back. From there on, however, was Bronzetti’s vehement reaction, able first to take a 3-0 lead in the second set and then to react to the Latvian’s comeback attempt, which got as far as 3-3 before falling in the next three games.

The second set was a good one.

Bronzetti then made the break, in the third set, almost immediately, taking a 3-1 lead, but Ostapenko responded by equalizing with a counterbreak, then going to 4-3: another 3-0 run for the Italian, however, put the match back on its tracks and a match point was enough to close it out in the tenth game. Now the round of 16, where there&#8217s the tournament&#8217s No. 2 seed, Coco Gauff.

Bronzetti capped off a positive day for the Italians in Cincinnati: in addition to her, Jasmine Paolini was also able to celebrate passing the round, again in the women’s tournament, while in the men’s, after Jannik Sinner, Luca Nardi also smiled, taking advantage of Mensik’s withdrawal but was already ahead 6-2, 2-1. In the doubles, Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori passed the round, and only Luciano Darderi, paired with the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, had to record a loss for the Italian colors.
