After her three-set success with Veronika Kudermetova, Jasmine Paolini goes in the hunt for her third career WTA 1000. In the final at the ‘Cincinnati Open‘ she will take on Iga Swiatek, No. 3 in the WTA rankings and seeding, who overcame Elena Rybakina in two sets in the ’other semifinal.

The match between the Blue and the Pole is scheduled for Monday, August 18 on the ‘P&G Center Court’ of the ‘Lindner Family Tennis Center’ in Mason. At 9 p.m. Italian time (3 p.m. local time) it will be Jannik Sinner’s turn with Carlos Alcaraz, while no earlier than 6 p.m. local time (midnight in Italy when it kicks off Tuesday, Aug. 19) it will be Paolini and Swiatek’s turn.

The precedents between Paolini and Swiatek are one-sided: the two players have faced each other on five occasions and the Polish player has always won: twice on cement, twice on clay and once on grass.

The last direct confrontation was in the semifinals of the WTA 500 in Bad Homburg 2025 with a two-set victory for Swiatek, who also beat Paolini in the semifinals of the Billie Jean King Cup 2024, in the final at Roland Garros 2024, in the first round of the Us Open 2022 and in the round of 16 at the ITF Prague in 2018.
