New look but same great tennis for Carlos Alcaraz, who was not surprised by Reilly Opelka and qualified with ease to the second round of the US Open 2025. The Murcia-based tennis player, who has set his sights on world number one Jannik Sinner and indeed is virtually already at the top of the ATP rankings, will now take on Italy’s Mattia Bellucci.
The 24-year-old tennis player from Lombardy overcame Chinese Shang in the first round, who was forced to abandon the match in the fourth set due to a physical problem. For Bellucci comes the big chance to challenge the Iberian, who has never faced him before on the ATP circuit. The two have only crossed paths in 2020 in an ITF tournament, when the 16-year-old Alcaraz won in two quick sets.
The match will be held tonight no earlier than’1 p.m. Italian time on the Arthur Ashe center court. Whoever passes the round will face the winner of the match between Italy’s Darderi and the U.S. Spizzirri.
