Serious accident for Chris Froome in training: he is in hospital

Serious accident for Chris Froome in training:the British cyclist fell while training Saint-Raphael, France. The 40-year-old Israel-Premier Tech rider remained conscious at all times and was transported by helicopter to’Toulon hospital.
The winner of four Tour de France, one Giro d’Italia and two Vuelta of Spain suffered fractured five ribs and lumbar vertebrae, as well as a pneumothorax. The’accident occurred on Tuesday, but was not revealed until Thursday.
Froome will undergo surgery in the coming hours, medical sources said. Contrary to early information, the team reports that no other riders or vehicles were involved in the’accident. Froome is possibly in the last year of his career, and this accident may have hastened his retirement.
“Froome is stable: there are no consequences or impacts in the head area. Unfortunately, tests have confirmed a pneumothorax, 5 broken ribs and a fracture of the lumbar vertebrae: things that will require surgery on Thursday afternoon”, is the statement from his team. It’s the second serious fall for the British cyclist, who was seriously injured in 2019, fracturing his femur, elbow and ribs.
