When Flavio Cobolli plays in Beijing: background with Andrey Rublev
After losing to Team World in the Laver Cup, Flavio Cobolli is set to return to the court at the Beijing ATP 500. The Roman, No. 25 in the ATP rankings, will make his debut against Andrey Rublev, No. 6 in the seeding and No. 14 in the world rankings.
The match between l’Azzurro and the Russian will open the program on the ‘Lotus’ court of the ‘Beijing Olympic Green Tennis Center’ on Friday, September 26: the players will take the court at 05:00 Italian time (11:00 local time).
There is only one precedent between Cobolli and Rublev and it dates back to the final of this year’s Hamburg ATP 500, played on clay: the Roman won with a clear 6-2 6-4, winning the second title of his career.
Cobolli is not the’only Azzurro present at the ‘China Open’: Jannik Sinner, who leads the seeding, has already made it past the first round after an easy win over Marin Cilic, while Lorenzo Musetti and Lorenzo Sonego will make their debuts with Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard and Alexander Zverev, respectively.
