Miguel Angel Russo has died, farewell at 69 to Boca Juniors coach

Boca Juniors is mourning the death of its coach Miguel Angel Russo. The coach, who had returned to the Xeneizes’ bench last summer before giving way to his deputy Ubeda in recent weeks, was 69 years old.

“Club Atlético Boca Juniors announces with deep sadness the passing of Miguel Ángel Russo. Miguel leaves an indelible mark on our institution and will always be an example of joy, humanity and dedication. We are close to his family and loved ones at this difficult time. Goodbye, dear Miguel”” reads a note.

Former coach also of Rosario Central, San Lorenzo, Velez and Estudiantes among others, he had previously coached Boca Juniors in 2007, winning the Copa Libertadores, as well as in 2020-2021.

In 2017, he had been stricken with prostate cancer and had been dealing with a urinary infection for a few weeks.
