Napoli market: Alex Meret could have left

Calciomercato Napoli: Alex Meret has never been in question, despite the fact that the Italian champion club put another top goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic under contract in the summer. This was guaranteed by his agent Federico Pastorello, who, however, also admitted that the chances of a change of scenery for the Italian goalkeeper would be there.

“As he was approaching the expiration of his contract, Meret was one of the players with the most requests ever – Pastorello told ‘SportMediaset’ -But he never hid the fact that his interest was to renew his contract with Napoli. There were four or five concrete offers, and among them was the possibility for him to go abroad. But, simply, he wanted to stay”.

The fact that the renewal negotiations with Napoli were lengthy, then, is not considered by Pastorello to be too strange: “Some economic and contractual goals had to be achieved. For that reason alone, time was needed. But neither side had any hesitations, not even Meret who was anyway aware of the’arrival of a second level goalkeeper”.

The dualism with Milinkovic-Savic, therefore, did not scare Meret even in the delicate stages of the preseason and especially of the still open soccer market. “Coach Antonio Conte was clear with him, and also with me. Vanja presents different characteristics than Alex, and that is also why we are seeing some’ relay. However, these are situations that we already knew would occur, but in any case they have never created doubts for Alex”.
