Vice-Premier Matteo Salvini had his say on the sidelines of an event in Milan on the “case” concerning Jannik Sinner, who announced his forfeit from the Davis Cup finals. Here are the League leader&#8217s words reported by Ansa.

“I wouldn&#8220t put Sinner on trial, he&#8217s an Italian pride, let&#8217s enjoy a champion, there are so many others of good tennis players. I understand the anger, frustration and envy of some lounge tennis players, but let”s enjoy a champion that the world envies us”.

Jannik Sinner won the Australian Open and Wimbledon this year and made it to all four Slam tournaments but lost world No. 1 to Carlos Alcaraz, who beat him at Roland Garros and the U.S. Open.

The 24-year-old outfielder from Sesto Pusteria was Italy’s draftee in the finals of the last two Davis Cups, helping win the second and third silver salvers in Italian tennis history.
