Matthew Arnaldi&#8217s run at the Vienna ATP 500 stopped in the round of 16. The Ligurian, world No. 72, surrendered in two sets to Alexander Zverev, No. 2 in the seeding and No. 3 in the ATP rankings, who won with a double 6-4 after nearly an hour and a half of play.

In the first set it was the serve that dominated with both players conceding very little at bat. The ninth game, however, is fatal to the Blue, who concedes the first break points of the match and loses the serve sending the German to serve for the set, which is closed on the first set point (6-4).

The German is the only player to win the set.

In the second set the balance is broken almost immediately and always in favor of the world number three who breaks serve from Arnaldi in the third game (2-1). Zverev concedes a counter-break ball in the sixth game but clears it with a backhand attack before also making the second set his own by the same score (6-4).

Arnaldi must thus bid farewell to the”Erste Bank Open‘ while Zverev flies to the quarterfinals where he will find Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands, world number 28. Also on the same side of the scoreboard is Lorenzo Musetti, engaged with Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the round of 16.
