Manchester City seems to have found itself again. The recent 4-1 thrashing of Borussia Dortmund is a clear signal: Guardiola’s team has reignited its engines. Liverpool, however, is also breathing again: the Slot cure is starting to pay off and the Reds want to confirm themselves as living up to their glorious recent past.

This one at the Etihad promises to be a high-voltage Premier Sunday. A challenge with an international flavor, which could reveal the true antagonist of Arsenal, so far masters of the league. City and Liverpool have marked an era, dominating in England and Europe, but both are looking for the continuity that has been lacking in recent months.

For the stats buffs, City has not beaten Liverpool in over two and a half years: the last victory was 4-1 in April 2023. Since then, the Reds have often had the better of it – including last season, which closed with two 2-0 victories, signed by the usual Salah.

Probable lineups

Manchester City (4-2-3-1): Donnarumma; Nunes, Stones, R. Dias, Gvardiol; Nico, Reijnders; B. Silva, Foden, Cherki; Haaland.
Coach: Pep Guardiola.

Liverpool (4-3-3): Mamardashvili; Bradley, Konaté, Van Dijk, Robertson; Mac Allister, Gravenberch, Szoboszlai; Salah, Ekitike, Wirtz.
Coach: Arne Slot.
