Joao Cancelo gets Simone Inzaghi’s ears ringing

In August 2024 Joao Cancelo was sold for 25 million euros from Manchester City to’Al-Hilal, with whom he signed a substantial three-year contract.

The Saudis, and their coach, Simone Inzaghi, will have their ears ringing upon hearing the Portuguese’s words from the national team’s retreat. “Of course I dream of returning to Europe. With my current club I have an agreement until the end of this year and then one more, but I am always open to new adventures. Yes, I would like to return to Europe,” he stressed.

The former Inter’Inter and Juventus player then went further: “Yes, the dream of going back to Lisbon I always have, it will depend on how my future develops. The dream of playing for Benfica, the team of my heart, I will always have, whether it is now or when I am 40 years old. It is the club that formed me, along with Barreirense, and my desire to return to wear the ‘Encarnados’ jersey is always great.”

Cancelo turned 31 in May.
