Belgium in mourning for former national team member Glen De Boeck

Former Belgian player and coach Glen De Boeck has died in Antwerp. The 54-year-old had suffered a brain hemorrhage on Friday and was then hospitalized in a deep coma.
De Boeck was born in Boom in August 1971’August 1971. After making his debut for his hometown team and his professional beginnings at Malines (1992-1995), he had moved on to Anderlecht, where he played until he hung up his boots in 2005. In the biancomalva jersey he won three league titles and wore the captain’s armband. De Boeck was also part of the national team defense: with the Red Devils he accumulated 35 appearances and 1 goal between 1993 and 2002.
After retiring, to which he was forced by a series of knee problems, he had become coach of Cercle Bruges (2007-2010) and then of Kortrijk (2017-2018 and a few months in 2023), even reaching a Belgian Cup semifinal.
The Belgian Football Federation recalled in a statement “his exemplary mentality, his sense of position, and his leadership,” adding that “his teammates often praised his team spirit and his ability to strengthen group cohesion.”
