Carlos Alcaraz was beaten by Frances Tiafoe in the exhibition match dubbed “A Racquet at The Rock” staged at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. In front of thousands of enthusiastic spectators, the Spanish champion put on a show by exchanging high school strokes with his U.S. rival in a match played at a low tempo in which he essayed his physical condition ahead of official commitments in January.

Unlike Jannik Sinner, who decided to stay away from tennis completely for a few weeks, Alcaraz instead filled his December with exhibition matches: on Monday he will face Brazilian Joao Fonseca in Miami.

In the other match played on the same court in Newark Jessica Pegula beat Amanda Anisimova by a score of 3-6 7-6 10-8. A fast-paced doubles match also took place after the two singles matches, which saw Pegula and Alcaraz opposing Tiafoe and Anisimova.
