Second consecutive success for South African Jayden Schaper who captured the title in the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, a tournament co-hosted by the DP World Tour and Sunshine Tour on the Heritage La Réserve Golf Links (par 72) course in Bel Ombre on Mauritius Island. He finished the event with 266 (69 69 64 64, -22) strokes at par with Ryan Gerard of the United States (266 – 68 69 63 66) and then overtook him with an eagle on the second playoff hole. The best of the five Italians in the field was Gregorio De Leo, 25, of Biella, 21st with 281 (73 67 74 67, -7), who recovered 21 positions in the final round with a 67 (-5, one eagle, four birdies, one bogey). He is making his third appearance in the new season in which he previously placed 14th in Australia.

Jayden Schaper, a 24-year-old from Benoni who has been a professional since 2020, again came out on top in the playoff, as he did in the Alfred Dunhill Championship last week, for a victory that counts on both circuits. He rebounded from fourth place with a 64 (-8, one eagle, six birdies) by hooking up with Gerard, 26, from Raleigh (North Carolina), a pro since 2022, one title on the PGA Tour (Barracuda Championship, 2025), who was at the top with South African Casey Jarvis, then third with 271 (-17). The American carded a 66 (-6, six birdies), narrowly avoiding overhand, but then could do nothing against Schaper’s eagle that mailed his third shot from off the green. For him a check for 174,065 out of a prize pool of about 1,025,000 euros ($1,200,000 is the official figure).

In fourth with 272 (-16) Norway’s Andreas Halvorsen, in fifth with 273 (-15) South Africa’s Zander Lombard and England’s John Parry, defending champion, and in seventh with 274 (-14) Spain’s Manuel Elvira and France’s Alexander Levy.

Of the other four Azzurri a slightly up-and-down but effective Francesco Laporta, 35, of Castellana Grotte (BA), 25th with 282 (71 67 72 72, -6), in his second effort after exiting at the cut in Johannesburg. First prizewinner tournament, out of three played, for Renato Paratore, 29, from Rome, 44th with 286 (74 69 68 75, -2), and second consecutive for Andrea Pavan, 36, from Rome, 48th with 297 (73 69 71 74, -1). Out at the halfway point for Stefano Mazzoli, 28, from Segrate (MI), 86th with 147 (78 69, +3).
