With regard to what happened at the end of last night’s game, Pallacanestro Varese, on behalf of its CEO Luis Scola, issued a note to “clarify that the episode falls within the context of an agitated moment, experienced with great emotional intensity by both parties.”

“It was nothing serious or anything beyond the normal tensions that can arise in high-level competitive situations,” it reads further.”

Respect for opponents, for clubs and for the game remains a central and unavoidable value. Now the focus is already on the daily work and the next match, with the goal of continuing our path with concentration, serenity and sportsmanship.”

The Federal Council, which met on Monday morning in an extraordinary way, and by videoconference, regarding the position of the Trapani Shark club, in sharing the firmness with which the Federation has so far handled the matter, aimed at demanding compliance with all the rules of participation in the maximum championship, excluding any rhetoric of “persecutory intent,” also unanimously agreed “that the behavior assumed by the Sicilian club is seriously damaging the image of the entire movement, and gave the federal president a broad mandate to identify and implement any initiative, including legal, useful for its safeguard.”

The Federal Council also called on the Basketball League Serie A, to take every decision of an endo-associative nature apt to prevent the credibility of the top league from being further placed in serious and severe crisis. After the home loss to Varese (88-95 the result), the Sicilians’ ds Valeriano D’Orta read a statement in the press room in which the Sicilians announced their possible absence in Bologna.

“The Trapani Shark – it was stated in the note – takes note of the recent determinations adopted by the Basketball League and the Italian Basketball Federation, which represent an act of blatant injustice and persecutory fury against the club, irreparably compromising its competitiveness and the fairness of the entire championship. As was also seen tonight, where under normal conditions we would have respected what are obvious ranking differences with our opponents.”
