Mick Schumacher returns to the track: clear words ahead of his debut

Mick Schumacher is ready to make his debut in a new category of motorsport. The former Formula 1 driver, who competed with the Haas team in 2021 and 2022, finishing twice in the points, completed his first laps on an oval track in Miami in recent days, ahead of the start of the first IndyCar season.
Schumacher, 26, raced on the Homestead circuit behind the wheel of a Raha Letterman Racing team car, and in a video interview released by the team he said he was pleased with his first laps: “We completed a lot of laps. Everything is a lot of fun here. The biggest difference from a normal track is definitely the fact that here you enter corners without braking. It’s been something I had to get used to: the feeling of being able to push the car into corners without having to let off the gas is a first for me”.
Schumacher ran a total of 97 laps behind the wheel of a black-colored Dallara IR-18. His teammate during the season will be Graham Rahal.
Schumacher told Motorposport about his feelings as follows: “I felt comfortable, although I still have a lot to learn. The car has quite a high ground clearance and it was moving a lot. Now I have to figure out what I feel comfortable with and also what settings I like on the car. I think we really achieved a lot today”.
Schumacher will make his debut next March 1 in St. Petersburg, Florida. The son of Formula 1 legend Michael will take on all 17 stages of the calendar, including the Indianapolis 500, and will have the number 47 on his car.
“Having a background in both F1 and endurance and having competed in several series over the years, I possess insights and knowledge that I am sure will contribute to an excellent partnership. RLL has already prepared me extremely well during testing and I am sure we can build a lot together” were the words during the presentation.
