Duopoly turns into monopoly? The current Carlos Alcaraz seems unstoppable: after his triumph at the Australian Open, the Murcia tennis player won the Doha tournament with ease, overwhelming the hapless Arthur Fils in the final with a clear 6-2, 6-1. In addition to unquestionable physical brilliance and technical superiority, the world number one also seems to have improved in what has repeatedly been his weakness in the past: attitude and concentration on court.

“Last year I went out in the quarters, and this year I wanted more. After each title we set new goals, and I am happy with how the week went – said after the match Alcaraz -. Maybe only in the semifinals against Rublev I lowered the level a little bit’ but I closed very well. I am happy with what I did in this beginning of the season and this week”.

Alcaraz had also talked about his rival Jannik Sinner, who was defeated in the quarterfinals by Mensik: “I will not lie, I was surprised by Jannik’s defeat. But I know the level of the players: some are very dangerous and when they are on their day they can beat anyone, including me”.

The current Alcaraz, however, does not seem beatable, and in the ATP rankings he has increased his lead over Jannik to 2150 points, guaranteeing that he will remain world number one at least until the Masters 1000 in Monte Carlo.

The Spaniard demolished Fils in just 52 minutes.

The Frenchman, who had folded Sinner’s executioner Mensik on Friday, ran into a severely negative day, with 19 free errors and just 3 winning strokes in the entire match.
