Penalty taken away and goal disallowed for Napoli: blizzard over Chiffi. Marelli ruthless

New refereeing controversy coming, this time facing Napoli. A storm broke out in the final half of the match between Atalanta and the Azzurri: referee Chiffi had at first awarded a penalty kick to the Azzurri for Hien’s foul on Hojlund. However, after the VAR review Chiffi retraced his steps, removing the penalty and yellow card to Hien, to the amazement of Antonio Conte and the Napoli players.

Here is Marelli“Indeed there&#8217s a knee-to-knee contact, but from my point of view it&#8217s a very light contact, there&#8217s really little of the penalty kick. Hien doesn&#8217t make a move to get in front. It is not easy, however, to take away this penalty once given, because precisely the contact is there. Not all contacts are infractions”, are the words of DAZN moviolist.

At the beginning of the second half, another episode that will be discussed: Napoli had Gutierrez’s goal annulled by Chiffi. The’referee immediately decided to nullify the goal because of an earlier foul by Hojlund on Hien.

Also in this case Marelli has great doubts: “I have doubts because it is a game clash. Yet the check seemed very clear to me”. VAR did not intervene, and again controversy broke out, on the field and on social media.
