Post-Olympic Monday consecrates Federica Brignone as the absolute queen of Italian sports, but it also brings with it the thrill of a medical challenge won against time that has something of the’incredible. After dragging Italy to the 2026 Olympics in Milan Cortina with a historic double gold medal in Super-G and Giant Slalom (a feat that saw her equal the legend of Alberto Tomba), the Valle d’Aosta star has just in the last few hours dissolved her reservations about her participation in the upcoming World Cup races.

In spite of the pain and fatigue accumulated during the Games, where she took to the slopes gritting her teeth in the aftermath of an injury that would have stopped anyone, Brignone has responded to the official call for the triptych in Soldeu, Andorra, which will begin on Friday, February 27. The decision came after an intense lightning consultation at J Medical in Turin: tests confirmed that the “Tiger” from La Salle still has fuel to fight, deciding not to stop and celebrate the two golds but to dive immediately into the fray to defend her world records.

Federica’s return to the track is not just an act of sheer athleticism, but a perhaps unexpected move for Mikaela Shiffrin and the other pretenders to the crystal ball. With the Olympic golds still hot around her neck, Brignone knows that the overall standings are more open than ever and every point won in Andorra could be worth a lot.

The’image of the opponents who bowed as she crossed the finish line in Cortina remains the indelible icon of these Games, but for the Valle d’Aosta native the time for toasts has already expired, replaced by the ferocity of those who want to close the most incredible season of her career on the highest step of the global podium. The call-up issued today sees her leading the Italian team along with an equally motivated Sofia Goggia: the Principality of Andorra will be the scene of a new compelling challenge.
