Giada D’Antonio, injured on Saturday, February 14 during a giant slalom training in Dobbiaco, was operated at the nursing home “La Madonnina” in Milan by doctors Andrea Panzeri and Gabriele Thiebat of the FISI Medical Commission, for the reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament of the right knee.

The surgery was perfectly successful, the 16-year-old Neapolitan will start since the next hours the physiotherapy path in agreement with the Commission itself that will bring her back on skis in the next competitive season.

“Our relationship is one of silent presence, respect and trust. I never force her, I try to give her time to grow, make mistakes and discover what she wants to become: no need to rush. Every goal comes when you are ready: I always tell her that everything comes in its own time. I am very Catholic and for me that means that success is not achieved by chasing after something, but by working hard to achieve what our dreams say. Before she left, I told her to keep her mind and control and reminded her that the hardest race is always the one in the mirror, with yourself” had told her mother, Sandra Cabezas Gonzalez, interviewed by Il Mattino on the eve of the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympics.

Alberto Tomba is one of the greatest legends of alpine skiing and one of the most iconic Italian sportsmen ever.

Born in Bologna on December 19, 1966, Tomba brought alpine skiing to the center of media attention like no one else.

Slalom and giant slalom specialist, he combined devastating technique with overwhelming charisma.
The world discovers him at the 1988 Calgary Olympics: he wins two golds (slalom and giant slalom) at only 21 years old. It is the beginning of an era.
Between the late 1980s and 1990s he dominates the scene.
Celebrated for impossible comebacks in the second heat, often faster and more aggressive than the first.
Tomba was not only a champion: he was a showman. And he still is today.
Smiles, jokes, flamboyant suits, memorable interviews. He made skiing “pop,” bringing it to prime time and igniting the passion of an entire country.
Even the Sanremo Festival stopped in order to have Rai broadcast one of his races.
He retired in 1998, after the Nagano Olympics.

Since then he remains a beloved figure: a symbol of talent, spectacle and pure competitiveness.
For many, the greatest Italian skier ever, even more than Gustav Thoeni.
In his career he won 3 Olympic golds (Calgary 1988: slalom and giant; Albertville 1992: giant)
50 World Cup victories and one overall triumph.

Very different words than those of Ninna Quario, according to whom Giada should not be summoned for the Five Circles event. “I do not want to fuel controversy, but I do not share this choice – Federica Brignone’s mother had said during an interview with Rai Radio 1 -. We are talking about a very talented girl, with an important future ahead of her, who has already demonstrated technical and mental solidity. However, I do not think she has the credentials for an Olympic call-up and the risk is that this decision will turn into a boomerang. In the competitions held so far, comparing herself with the other athletes on the European Cup team, she has never been able to outperform them”.
