Lothar Matthäus issues clear warning to Bayern Munich

Through his column on Sky Sports, Lothar Matthäus wanted to issue a clear warning to Bayern Munich about the recent drops in concentration Vincent Kompany’s team has had: “We are spoiled by their performance but it happens to see moments of weakness. On Saturday against Eintracht Frankfurt and several times before in the Bundesliga and also in the German Cup, the game was actually firmly in hand but then the team slowed down a gear or two”.
“These things happen but you have to be very careful especially in important matches: you cannot allow these drops in concentration during the Cup or the Champions League. Against Eintracht Frankfurt it went well but they should not push their luck too often” said Lothar Matthäus.
In recent outings Vincent Kompany has calmed on the subject but the German legend is not convinced: “Obviously the’only thing that matters is winning but I am more on the side of Jamal Musiala”. The Bayern Munich talent after Eintracht Frankfurt was quite harsh: “We cannot afford such moments when it comes to our goals. We have to keep our energy and concentration at 100 percent at all times” he told Sky Sports.
Bayern Munich will face Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, and Manuel Neuer’s presence is in doubt after his injury: “If he doesn’t play or if there is a risk that he will be injured again, I would completely rely on Jonas Urbig. He was chosen as Neuer’s successor and has so far performed well as his replacement. As a coach, especially considering what will happen in March and April, I would not take any risks. Especially since I have a goalkeeper like Urbig who has fully justified the trust placed in him and has performed well. While Urbig has been involved in two goals conceded, Neuer has also conceded a few. I believe Urbig is capable of playing in Dortmund”.
