Edin Dzeko reveals all: "I had other offers, that’s why Schalke 04"

After a decidedly negative experience in Florence, Edin Dzeko in January decided to return to play in Germany at Schalke 04. The center forward was also in demand by a number of Arab and U.S. clubs that made financially very important offers as Dzeko himself revealed: “I said it from the very beginning: money is not important for me – he admitted to Sporti BILD -. I had other offers that were definitely more attractive. But that was not my motivation at all. I willingly gave up money for this club”.

The rumors about his possible farewell to Fiorentina arose months before the actual transfer: “I asked myself: what do I want? What do I need? I found the answer: an exciting stadium with enthusiastic fans. A club that would excite me once again. Then suddenly Schalke 04 came to mind. I called Nikola Katic and asked if they needed a striker, so he asked if he could put me in touch with the coach and that”s where it all started”.

Unlike many other Schalke 04 players, Edin Dzeko decided to live in Gelsenkirchen and not in Düsseldorf: “If after training I had to drive for an hour to Düsseldorf to be alone in my apartment would be too much trouble. This way it only takes me five minutes to get home, I live in a nice neighborhood and I am very happy”.

A few weeks ago Youri Mulder told some background on the impact the former Fiorentina striker has had: “He has fit perfectly into the dynamics of our team. He gives advice to young players here and there and during the game he helps the team with his qualities. There is nothing condescending about him; you can see his pure joy in playing soccer in every situation. Edin sits in the locker room and cleans his own boots, without giving them to the warehouse staff; it is incredible. You can really feel his love for the sport” he told Sport BILD.
