Zverev amazed: "I am not Jannik Sinner but…"

Alexander Zverev advanced to the quarterfinals of the Monte Carlo tournament after beating Zizou Bergs in two sets. The German tennis player showed that he is in good shape, and to Tennis Channel he commented on his match as follows, “It’s a big step forward from yesterday. Yesterday I didn’t play well, but today I did much, much better, and yes, I’m looking forward to Friday.”
Zverev will face rising star Joao Fonseca, who on Thursday overcame Matteo Berrettini in two sets: “I’m looking forward to playing against this young emerging talent that everybody is talking about.I think he will become a great player, who will be among us for many, many years to come, probably longer than me because I’m ten years older than him. But yes I look forward to facing him.”
The German tennis player confessed surprise at the cheering for him in the stands in Monte Carlo: “I think the support of the public is always nice, it’s always important. I don’t get the same affection as Jannik Sinner, but most of the audience is Italian, so I think it’s normal… But I have a home here and I also like to sleep in my own bed, stay in my own apartment, I think it’s special for us who tour the world.”
Zverev feels he is growing on this surface: “On clay the forehand is probably the most important shot of all, and it’s the one I need the most rhythm on, it’s the one I need the most time on. “So I will probably improve as I play on clay. Today was definitely better. Yesterday it wasn’t there at all, so I’m happy with the progress. I’m glad it’s going in the right direction. I hope tomorrow to improve further.”
