Because of a wrist problem Carlos Alcaraz will not participate in the Barcelona and Madrid tournaments and, according to many, will be forced to raise the white flag for Rome and Paris as well. During an interview granted to El Mundo, Jannik Sinner spoke this way about his great rival’s absence in Madrid: “Tennis needs Carlos and I also need to see him on the scoreboard, that’s the truth.”

“It’s a little bit different when he’s not there,” continued the South Tyrolean. “Seeing him injured is not what I want and I hope he’ll be back as soon as possible but tennis is also like that. I hope our careers are very long and sometimes I will miss some tournaments and sometimes he will miss some. The sport also has this face.”

Always a champion of style, Jannik Sinner addressed beautiful words for Carlos Alcaraz but some fans of the Murcian tennis player did not like it and expressed their anger through social media. “Sinner is a liar, we know very well that he is happy with Carlos’s injury,” wrote Alejandro, who was echoed by Marcelo: “He only says that to make himself look loyal and gather support but everyone knows what he thinks about Alcaraz’s absence.” Evidently they are frustrated by the forced stop of their champion and thought it best to take it out on Jannik.

In the interview with El Mundo Sinner went on to elaborate on his relationship with the Murcian: “Obviously we don’t talk about everything, I think it’s also normal. We don’t talk about topics from a personal point of view, rather we talk about general things and it’s always nice to spend time with Carlos. He is a very nice guy, always has been, but there are things we both prefer to keep to ourselves,” she said.
