Verona nearly relegated to Serie B, Lecce sees salvation

The thirty-fourth day of Serie A leaves a bitter taste in the mouth of Hellas Verona, stopped by a mocking 0-0 on the field of Lecce. A draw that weighs like a defeat for the Gialloblù, who are getting closer and closer to relegation: the descent into Serie B, for the Venetians and Pisa, could become arithmetic already in the next round.
At the Via del Mare, Verona starts better, immediately dangerous with Belghali and Akpa-Akpro, but on both occasions Falcone responds. Lecce tries to strike on the counterattack, relying mainly on Pierotti’s accelerations, while on the other side it is Suslov who comes close to taking the lead. The first half thus ends goalless, with balance and few real chances.
In the second half, the script does not change. Verona continued to believe in it, dragged by an excellent Edmundsson, protagonist of a solid and decisive performance in defense. Despite Bella-Kotchap’s injury and a still attentive Falcone between the posts, Sammarco’s team continued to chase a success that could have changed the end of the season.
In the second half came the episode that ignited and then extinguished the Scaligere hopes. After trembling on chances by Cheddira and Camarda, Hellas found the goal in the 94th minute with Edmundsson on the development of a spot kick. The jubilation, however, lasted only a few moments: the Var called back the referee, who annulled the goal due to a push against Falcone.
So it ends 0-0, a point that serves little purpose to Verona, penultimate with 19 points and now a step away from Serie B. Instead, Lecce smiles, which thanks to the draw rises to +1 on Cremonese and maintains a precious margin on the relegation zone.
