Jannik Sinner triumphs, in Spain they want to change tennis

Jannik Sinner has become the authentic ruler of the ATP circuit: the Azzurro has won the last five Masters 1000s and after Carlos Alcaraz’s injury he is also favored in Rome and Roland Garros. Toni Nadal, Rafael Nadal’s uncle and former coach, explained in an interview with Onda Cero that he was very surprised by the Azzurro’s absolute supremacy in the final against Alexander Zverev.
“It is not normal for a final to be concluded in less than an hour, especially if the world number 1 and number 3 are playing each other.Zverev went down the court already beaten,” said Toni Nadal, who proposed changing tennis to ensure a more spectacular sport.
“I think something should be done to change tennis, because sometimes it is not very attractive. One measure I would propose would be to play with smaller racquets, because currently most matches come down to hitting the ball as hard as possible, and there is no strategy to counteract that.
Toni Nadal also spoke about Carlos Alcaraz and his injury: “I don’t think Carlos is too worried just as I don’t think he is inferior to Sinner. What is important is that he recovers 100 percent and doesn’t speed things up: the wrist is very delicate.”
At the Internazionali d’Italia, Sinner now has a real chance to also break the record for consecutive Masters 1000 victories held by Novak Djokovic, which stands at 31. The Italian is currently at 28 and would need only four to overtake Nole, with Djokovic moreover on Zverev’s side of the draw.
The world No. 1 will debut in the second round against the winner of the match between Austria’s Sebastian Ofner and Alex Michelsen of the United States, with a potential Italian derby in the third round against Matteo Berrettini, who in turn will first have to overcome Australia’s Popyrin. The Roman, Sinner’s friend and colleague, also made no secret of his amazement at the feats of the South Tyrolean: “From the outside it is inexplicable what he is doing. We have run out of words to describe him also because he achieves certain results with apparent ease.”
