Real Madrid is about to explode after a second consecutive season without a title: on Wednesday and Thursday Valverde and Tchouaméni came to blows in training, and today the Uruguayan midfielder got the worst of it, ending up in the hospital.

The incident triggered an unprecedented crisis at Real, and forced the blanco club to intervene and issue an official statement on the affair: “Real Madrid CF informs that, following the events that occurred this morning during first team training, it has decided to initiate separate disciplinary proceedings against players Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouameni. The club will communicate the outcome of both cases in due course, once the relevant internal procedures have been concluded.”

After an initial brawl on Wednesday, the situation worsened on Thursday in Valdebebas. The two were supposed to make peace but the situation escalated again, forcing several members of the team to intervene to break them up.

Valverde suffered a head injury that will keep him out in upcoming matches, including in the Clasico. The player suffered a blow against a corner of a table, resulting in a cut that required hospitalization. Eliminated from the Champions League, Real Madrid is second in the league, 11 points behind Barcelona, which could clinch the title at the very Clasico on the weekend.

So it is not surprising that, looking ahead to next summer, Real Madrid is already thinking about a major restructuring of the squad. According to rumors circulated in recent months, Tchouaméni himself was already considered to be on his way out, with a willingness to make a change of scenery in order to relaunch himself elsewhere. The episode of these days will only accelerate a farewell that seemed already written.
