World Cup ticket chaos: insane numbers to attend matches, skyrocketing prices

The 2026 World Cup is just around the corner. Next June 11 will see the start of the World Cup, the first with as many as 48 teams. A tournament that will also go down in history as the most expensive ever, at least for fans’ pockets. Prices to attend competitions are reaching insane figures.

As reported by ESPN, thea FIFA has tripled the price of tickets with the best seats for the FIFA World Cup final, making them available from $32,970. In short, on July 19, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, it will cost top dollar to see who wins the trophy. Cascading in, the coupons for all the other games are also at “out-of-market” prices, at least for our country.

Deputies Nellie Pou and Frank Pallone Jr, both Democrats from New Jersey, sent a letter to FIFA President Gianni Infantino to ask about the matter: “We are deeply concerned by reports that FIFA is using ‘modulable pricing,’ changing rules and potentially deceptive practices that make it difficult for fans to purchase seats.

Gianni Infantino defended himself by explaining how “… In the United States you can’t go to see a college soccer game, let alone a top professional game, for less than $300.” FIFA’s No. 1 also joked about the million-dollar prices for the finals (exclusive seats), “If someone buys a ticket to the finals for $2 million, I will personally bring them a hot dog and a Coca-Cola to make sure they have a great time.”
