Giro d'Italia: Narvaez sprints a trio in Chiavari

Jhonatan Narvaez again: the Ecuadorian cyclist won the 11th stage of the Giro d’Italia, 184 kilometers from Porcari to Chiavari. The UAE Team Emirates XRG rider won in a sprint, preceding Spaniard Enric Mas Nicolau and Azzurro rider Diego Ulissi at the finish line. For Narvaez, it is already the third success in this edition of the Giro.
In the general classification, Afonso Eulalio of the Bahrain Victorious team confirmed himself in the pink jersey ahead of Jonas Vingegaard of the Visma team, who is 27 seconds behind, and Thymen Arensman of Ineos, who pays a gap of 1’57”. After the race Narvaez expressed himself this way, “It was a difficult stage, especially because we missed the first breakaway and then also the second one. After two hours of hard racing, I tried to get right back to the front of the race.”
The Ecuadorian adopted a winning strategy: “I defended myself on the climbs, because I understood that Enric was the strongest. I was on the limit because we went all-out all day, but I managed to pull through once again.”
The Ecuadorian’s first success had already come in stage 4, the 138-kilometer Catanzaro-Cosenza, the first stage held in Italy after the three Bulgarian stages that had opened the race. On that occasion he had gotten the better of Orluis Aular and Giulio Ciccone, after fending off an early attempt by his teammate Jan Christen. The second victory had come in Fermo.
