Carlos Alcaraz: even more worrisome rumors for Jannik Sinner’s rival

When will Carlos Alcaraz return to the court? The Murcia champion has just announced his forfeit for the entire grass season, and therefore also for Wimbledon, the second consecutive Slam he will miss after Roland Garros. The Spanish star is already at the third Slam skipped in his career, and it is not ruled out that he will have to raise the white flag for the 2026 US Open as well.

In Spain, in fact, the idea of a possible wrist operation and thus a stop for the rest of the year is being reinforced, in order to thus return in 2027 at 100 percent. “It is a very delicate area for a tennis player, and it is not surprising that he has been immobilized for so long. And it’s normal for the team not to reveal the extent of the injury, because it could be a weakness for opponents to exploit,” specialist Fernando Polo told Radio Cope.

“It’s a shame to miss tournaments, but he will play a lot more in the future. Undergoing surgery would involve another six weeks of immobilization and a full recovery period of three to four months. The operation would be necessary if conservative treatment proves to be insufficient,” the doctor explained.

If, on the other hand, conservative treatment bears fruit, Alcaraz could decide to return to play as early as August on U.S. cement courts. In terms of ATP ranking, the long stop is weighing heavily on the Spaniard’s ambitions. Alcaraz has already lost a total of up to 3,000 points, skipping the Internazionali d’Italia and Roland Garros as defending champion. Meanwhile, Jannik Sinner has taken advantage of the space left vacant by his rival, dominating the clay-court season with six consecutive Masters 1000s and increasing his own ranking lead to +2,740 points over the Spaniard, currently second with 11,960 points.
