Allegri to Napoli, distraught Adani brings up Maradona

Daniele Adani has commented harshly on Napoli’s decision to rely on Massimiliano Allegri starting next season. The coach from Livorno, who was just exonerated by AC Milan, will have the chance to start again immediately and relaunch himself in a great square that only a season ago won the Scudetto. He will take the place of Antonio Conte, who decided to leave the Neapolitan club after a first and second place finish in the standings in two years.

The choice of Aurelio De Laurentiis did not please Allegri’s biggest critic, Daniele Adani, at all, who on social media stung the blue club. “Forgive them, because they don’t know what they’re doing,” the former defender wrote on Instagram to accompany a photo of Diego Armando Maradona. Adani even quoted a historic phrase from the Pibe de Oro: “Mediocre people who think they are great.”

Allegri will sign a two-year contract worth 4 million euros plus bonuses per season with an option for a third year. He beat off competition from Vincenzo Italiano, the other coach in the running. The former Milan and Juve coach has long been a pet project of De Laurentiis, who has finally realized his goal.

Already in recent weeks, commenting on Milan’s disastrous end to the season, the former defender had used vitriolic words: “Those who live by being clever, looking for shortcuts to justify what is not justifiable, in the long run pay.” A very harsh judgment, also shared by Antonio Cassano, who in “Viva el Futbol” had even sentenced: “He is finished: in the national team, chapter closed, he cannot go to the national team, to Napoli anyway.” Prophecy, the latter, resoundingly belied by the facts.
