Montoya caustic on Kimi Antonelli and George Russell

Juan Pablo Montoya threw some barbs at George Russell at the microphones of the talkSPORT BET website: the former Colombian driver commented on the situation in the Mercedes team after the first Grands Prix, explaining how Antonelli is “better suited” to win the title than the British driver.

“Mercedes has the better car but Kimi did a fantastic job in any case. The luck was in his favor: in China it went well for him, in Japan he was faster than George Russell, but he still benefited from the Safety Car while in Miami he did a fantastic job and he deserved it, although McLaren I think threw it away that win, Lando was in the lead.”

“Instead look at George, he did a great job in Australia and won, but he should have won in China as well. In Japan he didn’t, while in Miami he wasn’t even on his partner’s pace, but he hated that track and struggled. Maybe he could have won this weekend in Montreal had it not been for the failure of his power unit. I think at this point the tally should have been three wins for George and two for Kimi.”

Montoya criticized Russell’s attitude: “I think Kimi might be better suited to win the championship because he has more swagger about it. He is not like George, who has been waiting for this opportunity for a long time. And part of him is definitely thinking ‘What did I do wrong to the universe to deserve this situation?'”

“I think Kimi is in a better situation, we’ll see in the next few weeks how it goes. Russell will have to make the most of every situation to improve.”
