The wife of former Juventus and Fiorentina goalkeeper Alex Manninger wanted to remember her husband on the day he would have turned 49. Emily published a touching post on her social profiles that moved many fans almost two months after the Austrian defender’s passing in a car accident.

“My Lexx, my love, dad, today would have been your birthday. Usually we would have given you a present and a card made by me and one by the boys. Usually we would have been in Italy on your birthday because you liked to go away. Today I wake up next to our children with a huge sense of sadness. I feel guilty for not buying you a present, but I wrote you a letter and the boys did too.”

“Alex, I cannot explain how much we miss you. You were always there for the boys: you fed them, bathed them, helped me put them to sleep, and most of all, you played with them and always took us on family outings. We really needed you, and we still do.”

“This morning we watched your videos, lots of them. The kids keep saying ‘daddy,’ ‘mein papa,’ ‘daddy soccer,’ ‘daddy play golf.’ It’s really hard without you. But I promise I will make sure they remember you every day. We all wish you a happy birthday in heaven and I know you will be playing golf and then fishing up there. I love you immensely, forever. It is strange to write this on social, it was not your style at all, nor ours. But I need it. We miss you deeply, every second of the day. Have a good day in heaven, my best friend and best dad in the world. Until we meet again, I will be the best mom to our boys.”
