Mike James surprises everyone once again

Mike James posted several photos on Instagram in what appears to mark the end of his time with Monaco. The American star, the all-time leading scorer in EuroLeague history, had already announced in recent weeks his decision to part ways with the Principality club at the end of the season.
“People often talk about legacy and what we’ll be remembered for,” wrote the former Olimpia Milano player. “I prefer to remember what I’ve achieved and the people with whom I’ve shared these successes. The last five years have been incredible, crazy, unpredictable, and extraordinary, and I wouldn’t trade them for anything in the world.”
The 35-year-old American player, who stands 1.85 meters tall, missed the final games of the season, including the French league semifinal against Nanterre. Financial issues are reportedly behind his absence. For some time, rumors had been circulating in circles close to the club that James would not return to the court in a Monaco jersey this season, despite the team having secured a spot in its fifth consecutive French league final, scheduled for Sunday against Paris.
Having arrived in the Principality in 2021 after stints with CSKA Moscow, Panathinaikos, and the Brooklyn Nets in the NBA, James spent five seasons as a key player for Monaco. His list of achievements includes numerous trophies, among them the national titles won in 2023 and 2024.
An undisputed leader both on and off the court, the American point guard played a decisive role in Monaco’s rise on the European stage. This season, the Monegasque club is still in the running for a historic quadruple, having already won the French Super Cup, the French Cup, and the Leaders Cup.
