Antonio Faravelli meets Fabio Fognini and makes plans with him: “One day we’ll talk about wine”

It’s not just golf for Antonio Faravelli, the wine entrepreneur from Montù Beccaria in the Pavia area, who is passionate about just about every sport and who recently had the chance to meet Fabio Fognini, a tennis star for many years. The two met at a recent tournament held at the La Pinetina Golf Club, and Faravelli took the opportunity to have a chat with the Ligurian.
“I’ve always admired his determination, but even more so his talent,” said the owner of Cantine Vitea. “I also told him I was sorry to hear he’d retired. He was in a hurry, so we didn’t talk about wine, but I’m sure we’ll meet again soon, and I’ll have the chance to discuss this topic as well, which is obviously very dear to me.”
The occasion for the meeting was the Swing Experience 2026, hosted by the prestigious Lombard club, where Faravelli had been invited exclusively to present the wines of his Cantine Vitea and the “Golf and Wine 1895,” created with the aim of promoting the culinary and wine excellence of the Oltrepò Pavese region through its connection with golf. The event was a great success, with participants able to taste and purchase the winery’s wines, including the award-winning Metodo Classico Pinot Nero Pas Rosé, which was also particularly appreciated by the club’s president, Roberto Tavecchio.
Fognini, for his part, remains an authoritative voice in the world of Italian tennis even after his retirement. The former Italian number one recently commented on the Roland Garros final, in which Flavio Cobolli came close to pulling off a major upset before succumbing to Alexander Zverev. “It was a unique match,” the Ligurian told Gazzetta dello Sport. “In the first set, I saw exactly what I expected: he was very tense, in a hurry to get into the match, and made several errors. But one thing is certain: on clay, he has proven he belongs at this level.”
