Roma Basketball, Valerio Bianchini comes out of the closet and goes down flat with Matiasic

After acquiring the sports title of Vanoli Cremona to play the next Serie A championship, the new basketball club based in Rome is ready to take another step forward: this is confirmed by Valerio Bianchini, personally involved in the project that aims to involve the Capital in the NBA Europe project. The Vate, from the columns of ‘Il Fatto Quotidiano,’ among other things, spoke about the competition brought by Paul Matiasic, which has created further turmoil in a basketball landscape that is not easy to interpret.
“The difference is that our group is all about sports people,” Bianchini explained. “Donnie Nelson, Don’s son, was the general manager of the Mavericks who brought to Dallas first Dirk Nowitzki and then Luka Doncic. In short, someone who knows about both NBA and European basketball I would say. What convinced me to participate and put my efforts into it is the primary interest in landing Nba Europe, but above all an idea of development of Roman basketball and all its resources that I fully share and espouse.”
“We will make an agreement with an existing and valuable reality to grow a youth sector as well. With respect to the PalaEur what can I say … it was stopped with dizzying figures by the lawyer Matiasic for a team that we will soon know if it will really be there or not. We will start at the Palazzetto dello Sport in Viale Tiziano,” added Bianchini, who then specified that the provisional name of the club is Roma Basket Club, but without providing further details on possible American-style nicknames or social colors.
The former coach, who precisely in Rome won a Scudetto, two Champions’ Cups and two Intercontinentals with Virtus (a club now in the lower leagues) further reiterated on the issue of the coexistence of multiple clubs in Rome: “Three would be too many, two would be perfect and the other as far as I’m concerned should be Virtus with the name and the history it carries on. And a broad collaboration between us and Virtus would be valuable, indeed.”
