No promotion for Virtus Roma; Vigevano returns to Serie A2

Elachem Vigevano is immediately returning to Serie A2: one year after being relegated, and following a season in B Nazionale, the Lombardy-based team defeated Virtus Roma 71-67 in the playoff final in Forlì, securing promotion and a return to the second national division.
Coach Salieri’s team was led by Alfredo Boglio’s 21 points; he was clearly the MVP of the game. In addition to him, Cucchiaro also played well with 14 points and 6 rebounds, while Kancleris scored in double figures with 10 points. For Virtus Roma, Majcunic’s 12 points, Barattini’s 11, and the 10 points each from Battistini and Visintin were not enough.
Poor accuracy on long-range shots hurt Roma (7-for-27), which trailed by five points at halftime. In the second half, the Rome team closed the gap to just one point, but Elachem pulled away again thanks to key baskets by Cucchiaro. In the final quarter, Rome closed the gap to -2 with 17 seconds left, but Vigevano held on, secured the offensive rebounds, and sealed the victory.
The dream of promotion thus fades for Virtus Roma, which will turn the page starting tomorrow and focus on next season: the arrival of new American partners will change everything.
