2026 World Cup: Horns and Unrest Defeat Switzerland

The World Cup and the premiere of the new season of “Temptation Island” vied for viewers’ attention during prime time on Tuesday, June 24. Rai1 aired the World Cup match between Canada and Switzerland, which began at 9:00 p.m., while Canale 5 featured the relationship reality show hosted by Filippo Bisciglia. Rounding out the television lineup were the action movie “Big Game: Hunt for the President” on Italia 1, the thriller “Mother’s Instinct” on Rai2, “Chi l’ha visto?” with Federica Sciarelli on Rai3, “Zona Bianca” on Rete4, and a rerun of “Lezioni di mafie” on La7.
According to Auditel data released this morning, the winner of the evening was once again “Temptation Island.” The first episode of the 2026 season drew 3.569 million viewers with a 27.6% share. This result surpassed those of previous seasons: the 2025 premiere had drawn 3.452 million viewers and a 27.8% share, while in 2024 it had reached 3.248 million and a 24.9% share. Starting at 9:38 p.m., coinciding with halftime of the match, the Canale 5 program continued until 12:35 a.m., maintaining an audience of over 4 million viewers until shortly after 11:00 p.m.
On Rai1, the match between Canada and Switzerland, which ended with a 2-1 victory for the Swiss, drew 3.671 million viewers and a 22% share through the end of the game. The overlap figures between the two programs were particularly significant: “Temptation Island” recorded 4.046 million viewers and a 25.2% share, compared to 3.341 million and a 20.8% share for the soccer match. The viewership trends compiled by Studio Frasi show Canale 5 consistently ahead of Rai1 during the overlapping time slot.
Among other networks, “Chi l’ha visto?” on Rai3 drew 1.228 million viewers and an 8.7% share. On Italia 1, “Big Game: Caccia al Presidente,” starring Samuel L. Jackson, drew 845,000 viewers and a 5.2% share. On Rai2, the film “Mother’s Instinct,” starring Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain, drew 704,000 viewers and a 4.4% share. “Zona Bianca,” hosted by Giuseppe Brindisi on Rete4 and focusing on topics such as Donald Trump, Giorgia Meloni, and the Garlasco case, drew 548,000 viewers and a 4.6% share. On La7, the rerun of “Lezioni di mafie” with Nicola Gratteri drew 400,000 viewers, representing a 2.5% share.
